The Caremaps Development TeamDavid Patrick Ryan, Ph.D. C.Psych. David is a psychologist consulting in aging, organizational behavior, continuing education and knowledge translation. He has practiced, taught and researched in the areas of child and adolescent psychology and psychiatry, but for the last 15 years his work has focused on aging. David is Director of Education for the Regional Geriatric Program of Metropolitan Toronto and Assistant Professor Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His present interests are the use of information and communication technology to support seniors health, knowledge translation, and informal learning. He lectures on e-learning and new technology, and builds web resources such as the RGP's online educational outreach service, and clinical topics repositories. As well, as Director of Education for the RGP he manages a telehealth enhanced rural/remote community development project and the Psychogeriatric Resource Consultation Program in Toronto. David directed the caremapsforseniors.ca project and you can communicate with him at david.ryan@sunnybrook.ca. Betty Matheson, B.Sc.N. Since graduating from St Frances Xavier University Betty has spent 20 years of her career in community health and homecare with both non-profit and private service provider agencies. In 2000, she became patient care manager for specialized geriatric services at Sunnybrook & Women's where she manages an acute geriatric unit, an internal consulation team, a geriatric day hospital, ambulatory geriatric clinics, outreach teams and a geriatric emergency management service. Barbara Jonathan, B.N.Sc.,B.A. Barbara is a nurse clinician with 20 years experience in a variety of clinical, research and education settings. Since 1996, Barbara has specialized in the development of in home assessment services for frail seniors as part of the specialized geriatric services outreach team at Sunnybrook & Women's. Vicky Johnston, R.N. Vicky is a Care Coordinator with the East York Access Centre in Toronto who has worked in many clinical settings including geriatrics, addictions, community nursing and homecare. Her current interests include safe homecare for clients with a dementing illness, and caregiver support. Judy Kirst Dip. PT & OT Since 1989 Judy was a physiotherapist with the specialized geriatric services acute geriatric unit at Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Science Centre where she was also physiotherapy professional practice leader in the division of community medicine. Judy was clinical tutor for the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto. Presently Judy is working on the development of educational resources to support the core competencies needed by specialized geriatric service providers. Dr. Barbara Liu, MD, FRCPC Barbara is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. She has specialty qualifications in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. She is a scientist in the Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit, Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care and has a clinical practice at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre. Her areas of research interest include the appropriateness of drug therapy in the older patient and adverse drug reactions in the elderly, particularly falls and their relationship to medication use. Nancy Neale, M.H.Sc. Nancy is a Speech Language Pathologist with 13 years experience working with seniors in a variety of settings. She currently sees patients as a clinician in Specialized Geriatric Services and in the Veteran's Long Term Care Facilty at Sunnybrook and Women's. She is a clinical educator with the Department of Speech Language Pathology at the University of Toronto. Mariella Watson B.PT. Mariella is a Registered Physiotherapist currently working in the Long Term and Veteran's Care Directorate at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Science Center. Mariella has been a physiotherapist for eleven years eight of which have focused on geriatrics in long-term care and reactivation settings. She has a strong interest in balance and falls prevention. She is a clinical tutor and facilitator of structured clinical training for the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto. Her research interests are balance and falls prevention. |
